Highland Springs girl competing in Miss Teen pageant

Hershai James of Highland Springs, a junior at Varina High School, recently was selected to participate in the 2016 Miss Teen pageant competition, which will take place on Sunday, Apr. 3.

She will be competing for her share of $30,000 in prizes that include cash scholarships and bonds that will total more than $20,000. She will compete in the Miss Teen division, one of two divisions that will involve young women between the ages of 13 through 19 competing in modeling routines, which include Casual Wear and Formal Wear categories.

James and other contestants will display their personalities and interviewing skills while interviewing with the judging panel. Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition.

If James wins the title of Miss Teen, she would represent Richmond and the surrounding communities at the national competition that will take place in Orlando.

Each Preliminary Pageant winner also will receive and expense paid trip to Orlando, Florida for five nights and six days to compete in the 2017 National Pageant Competition

Community businesses, organizations, and private individuals can assist James in participating in the competition by becoming an official sponsor. She must secure a total sponsorship of $595 by Mar. 15 in order to participate.
