Eisenman & Associates, Inc. employee Tracie Grady recently was named the 2017 Virginia Business Meeting Planner of the Year. Grady was chosen by a committee of industry leaders among 19 nominees. The award is a partnership between Virginia Business magazine and the Virginia Society of Association Executives. Its goal is to recognize the unsung hero of the association, non-profit, and business world, the professional meeting planner. Grady works with clients in a number of areas, including membership management, publication design, membership directories and convention/tradeshow programs. She has worked in the association industry, primarily focused on meeting planning, for more than 20 years. She is a graduate of VCU. Eisenman & Associates, Inc. is an association management and meetings consulting company.

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is honoring Learning Care Group (LCG) with the 2017 PHA “Partner of the Year” Award for the company’s extensive work in prioritizing healthier practices in the daily lives of young children. The “Partner of the Year” Award is presented to the partner who demonstrates how it is successfully executing key PHA strategies, including using innovative approaches to address childhood obesity. In earning this award, LCG was selected from a pool of over 200 eligible organizations. LCG’s 900+ schools nationwide include two La Petite Academy locations in Henrico County. La Petite Academy has reduced fat and sugar by eliminating fried foods and juice; enhanced the daily menu to include over 50 fruits and vegetables and more than 30 multi-cultural offerings; and found ways to keep the children active each day, such as with dance breaks to get re-energized for learning.

This is the third year in a row that HHHunt has been recognized as a national leader in adoption-friendly policies and benefits. Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces are determined by an analysis of financial assistance and paid leave for families who adopt, based on surveys completed by employers. Break-out lists are available noting America’s top 100 adoption-friendly employers, the top 10 by size, and the leaders in each industry. Since 2007, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has compiled an annual list of the top adoption-friendly workplaces.

Long & Foster Real Estate has announced that its Innsbrook sales office will support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in its Toys for Tots campaign this year. The office launched its toy drive for Toys for Tots earlier this month and will collect toys through December 9. Toys may be dropped off at the Innsbrook sales office, located at 11225 Nuckols Road in Glen Allen, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This year marks the company’s 26th year participating in the holiday collection campaign.

The 9Round of Henrico gym will open Saturday, Nov. 19, at The Shops at Wellesley, 3442 Lauderdale Dr. The location, owned by Heather Coe, offers shorter fitness workouts focused on kickboxing techniques. Developed by reigning IKF Light Middleweight Kickboxing Champion of the World, Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson, 9Round workouts consist of nine, three-minute stations of activities that include cardio, weight training, abdominal exercises and kicks and punches on 100-pound, double-end, upper cut and speed bags. A real boxing bell rings to begin the workout, another to warn the station is ending and a third to signal the end. Members have a 30-second active break between rounds to recover. There are no class times, and trainers are always on site lead the workouts. The routines change daily to give members a fresh workout every time they go to the gym. 9Round of Henrico is open Monday through Saturday.

Founded in 1991 by Michael Thaler, the firm started off as a two-person operation that has now expanded to two area offices, as well as two additional associate firms in Altoona, Penn. The company serves more than 2,000 households and oversees approximately $800 million in assets. It recently was ranked sixth on this year’s Richmond BizSense annual list of area wealth and asset management companies. Thaler has also established his own nonprofit, Effective Ministries, Inc. (EMI), also known as The LINK. The LINK oversees partnerships and projects that meet the physical and spiritual needs of the communities it serves in Richmond and Niger, Africa.

HCA Virginia has announced that Crystal Farmer will serve as chief nursing officer for Parham Doctors’ Hospital. Farmer previously served as the CNO of Retreat Doctors’ Hospital where she led the hospital to a top ranking in HCA patient satisfaction scores for the last three quarters. Prior to her role as CNO, she was the director of medical surgical services at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. In addition, Farmer has more than 19 years of experience in various nursing leadership roles as a registered nurse at Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals, managing, coordinating, and overseeing the clinical operations of several department and units throughout the hospital. Farmer received her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing. She is a member of various committees and organizations that include American Organization of Nurse Executives, Virginia Organization of Nurse Executives, and the Virginia Nurses Association.

Saxon Shoes has partnered with seven community non-profits to help bring awareness to their causes and financial support to their programs. Saxon has launched “Dollar a Pair” – a new community initiative to run through the month of October. For every pair of shoes purchased, Saxon will donate one dollar to a local charity of the customer’s choice. In Richmond the community partners are Feedmore, Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation, Massey Cancer Center and St. Joseph’s Villa. In Fredericksburg customers can choose from Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation, Loisann’s Hope House, or Mary Washington Healthcare Hospice. Saxon will also feature a display for each local charity in both stores to share information about each charity’s mission and work.

New Hospital Safety Scores, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the United States health care system, were announced recently by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog. Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center and Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital were among 798 hospitals to receive an A, ranking them among the safest hospitals in the country. Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A-F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. For the first time, the Hospital Safety Score includes five measures of patient-reported experience with the hospital as well as two of the most common infections, C.diff and MRSA.
