Rolls-Royce supplier lands in Henrico


A United Kingdom-based supplier for Rolls-Royce has established an office and manufacturing center at the Byrd Industrial Park in Eastern Henrico, the Greater Richmond Partnership announced July 18.

Erodex Ltd., a graphite products maker, recently signed a five-year agreement with Rolls-Royce to supply goods to the automotive company's Crosspointe campus in Prince George, Va. Erodex invested $2 million and hired four to quickly ramp up production for its client.

New Walmart opens in Eastern Henrico


JULY 19, 7 A.M. – Eastern Henrico's first Walmart Supercenter opens to the public today at 5001 Nine Mile Road. The store, which occupies about 190,000 square feet and employs about 300 people, is located at the site of the former Fairfield Commons Mall, which is now known as Eastgate Town Center.

Publix opens first Metro Richmond store in Glen Allen

Another much-anticipated entrant into the crowded local grocery store scene arrived July 15, when Florida-based Publix opened its first Virginia store at the new Nuckols Place shopping center.

The store, located at Nuckols Road and Twin Hickory Drive in Glen Allen, will employ about 140 workers. It is the first of eight Publix locations planned in Henrico County.

Hair Cuttery will be donating back-to-school haircuts to children who need it most this summer through its Share-A-Haircut program. From Aug. 1-15, for every child up to age 18 who purchases a haircut at one of Hair Cuttery’s nearly 900 salons, the chain will donate one free haircut certificate to a disadvantaged child in the community. More than 61,000 free haircuts were donated last year.

Whitley’s Peanut Factory to open Glen Allen store


Whitley's Peanut Factory will open its third retail location – and its first in the Richmond region – early this fall in Innsbrook.

The store will be located at 4101 Dominion Boulevard in Glen Allen and will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with extended holiday hours.

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer recently announced the sale of two class A office buildings located within Innsbrook Office Park in Glen Allen. 4240 Cox Road is a 38,676 square foot two-story corporate headquarters building built in 2000. 4300 Cox Road is a 69,620 square foot three-story office building built in 1989. Lightfoot Road Hospitality, LLC purchased the office buildings from Banks Richmond Limited Partnership for $6,247,500 as an investment.

Lidl to open 2 Henrico stores July 27

JULY 6, 3:10 P.M. – Lidl US will open four Richmond-area grocery stores – including two in Henrico County – July 27, company officials announced today. The Henrico stores, at 12151 West Broad Street in Short Pump and 5110 South Laburnum Avenue in Eastern Henrico – will open at 8 a.m. that day, following ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 7:40 a.m.

The new Richmond-area stores are among Lidl’s first locations in the country. The other two local stores opening that day are located at 11701 Iron Bridge Road in Chester and 1311 Mall Drive in North Chesterfield. (Another Henrico store is nearing completion at the intersection of Staples Mill Road and Hermitage Road.)

New Grand Mart grocery store coming to West End


The second New Grand Mart grocery store in the metro Richmond region will open in West Broad Commons in Henrico's West End. The store, which carries a number of ethnic and specialty items, as well as fresh produce, fish and meats, will locate in a 39,386-square-foot spot at the center, located at 9031 West Broad Street.

Thousands of real estate agents and employees with Long & Foster Real Estate, including those at the Innsbrook and Short Pump offices in Glen Allen, Virginia, took part in the company’s 20th annual Community Service Day June 7.

The Innsbrook and Short Pump offices chose to volunteer with Housing Families First on June 7. The organization’s mission provides families experiencing homelessness with what they need to move to a stable housing situation.

Other local brewers in leadership positions include Eric McKay of Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (VCBG chair), Hunter Smith of Champion Brewing Company (co-chair of the Government Affairs Committee) and Kate Lee of Hardywood (co-chair of the Quality Committee).

Citizen’s Kruszewski wins 6 VPC awards


Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski won six awards in the Virginia Professional Communicators (VPC) 2017 communications contest, including a first-place entry that will advance to the National Federation of Press Women competition. Awards were announced at the VPC spring conference held in Richmond in April.

Kruszewski collected first-place honors in the personal columns category for two Family Forum columns covering the topics of the relationship between character and parenting, and power-outage hardships for electronically-dependent families.

Henrico engineering firm merging with 2 other local firms


Representatives from Koontz-Bryant, Geo-Solutions and Willmark Engineering announced this week that the three companies will be merging to form Koontz Bryant Johnson Williams.

Henrico-based Koontz-Bryant is a civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture and environmental services firm that has been in operation for more than 26 years. Chester-based Geo-Solutions’ expertise lies in geotechnical engineering, environmental services and drainfield design, and Ashland-based Willmark Engineering provides civil engineering services to the commercial and industrial market sectors.
