Glover to be inducted posthumously into Babe Ruth Hall of Fame


Late Brookland District Supervisor Dick Glover will be inducted into the Babe Ruth Southeast Region Hall of Fame during a ceremony Aug. 14 at RF&P Park at approximately 6:30 p.m., prior to a 14-and-under Babe Ruth World Series game. The Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association, which is hosting the World Series, made the announcement July 18.

Rolls-Royce supplier lands in Henrico


A United Kingdom-based supplier for Rolls-Royce has established an office and manufacturing center at the Byrd Industrial Park in Eastern Henrico, the Greater Richmond Partnership announced July 18.

Erodex Ltd., a graphite products maker, recently signed a five-year agreement with Rolls-Royce to supply goods to the automotive company's Crosspointe campus in Prince George, Va. Erodex invested $2 million and hired four to quickly ramp up production for its client.

New Walmart opens in Eastern Henrico


JULY 19, 7 A.M. – Eastern Henrico's first Walmart Supercenter opens to the public today at 5001 Nine Mile Road. The store, which occupies about 190,000 square feet and employs about 300 people, is located at the site of the former Fairfield Commons Mall, which is now known as Eastgate Town Center.

First Tennessee Bank awards $55k in grants

First Tennessee Bank recently awarded 20 grants totaling $55,725 to Richmond-area nonprofits as part of its first FTB Gives series of grants awarded in the region. FTB arrived in the local market in 2008, and its local headquarters are at Reynolds Crossing in Henrico's Near West End.

The donations include a $10,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity and $5,000 grants each to the Better Housing Coalition and HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia, Inc.).

The remaining grants were awarded to the following nonprofits:

• Arts & Culture – Art 180, Richmond Ballet, Richmond Symphony, The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen;

Reynolds CC 8-week and 4-week classes start Oct. 19


Classes start Oct. 19 for Reynolds Community College’s eight-week and four-week fall semester sessions. Registration for both sessions is currently open and runs through the start of classes. Students may register online anytime at http://www.reynolds.edu. Students also may register in-person in Enrollment Services, located on each campus.

Reynolds Community College has three campuses: the Parham Road campus at 1651 East Parham Road in Henrico County; the downtown campus at 700 East Jackson Street in downtown Richmond; and a Goochland campus, located at 1851 Dickinson Road near Routes 6 and 632 in the community of the Goochland Courthouse.

Henrico County Public Schools is seeking candidates for full-time and substitute bus drivers, and new hires will receive pay during a training program.

Modine Manufacturing Company, a leader in technology in the HVAC industry, will bring its Modine Innovation Tour to The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen Oct. 6-7 to showcase the latest products in the industry and offer continuing education courses.

The event will be held Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Police seek help locating missing woman

Henrico Police are seeking the public's assistance to locate a missing woman.

Lynda Michelle Dunnavant, 48, was last seen in the 1800 block of Graves Road in Sandston on Feb. 17 at 11 p.m. She was reported missing three days later.

Fourth of July holiday to delay some CVWMA collections


CVWMA residential recycling and trash collections will be delayed one day from July 4 through July 7 because of the Fourth of July holiday. No collections will be made on Tuesday because of the holiday; thus all collections Tuesday through Friday will occur on the day following the normal collection day. Friday collections will occur on Saturday.

Richmond Montessori School earns VAIS reaccreditation


Richmond Montessori School, an independent Montessori school for children ages 2 to 14, recently earned reaccreditation from the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. The VAIS accreditation program is one of only a few recognized at the national level through the National Association of Independent School's Commission on Accreditation and is also recognized and approved by the Virginia Board of Education through the Virginia Council for Private Education.

Schools to help curb human trafficking

Virginia ranked 15th in the United States for the most reported cases of human trafficking in 2016. Last year, the state reported 148 cases with 59 involving minors, according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

In response to the issue, Virginia is enacting a new law to the decrease crimes of this nature and help its youngest victims.

Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week: May 22, 2017

This week, Crime Stoppers needs your help to find the suspects vandalizing Dominion Energy equipment in Varina.

On Feb. 6 and May 3, someone shot at equipment belonging to Dominion Energy. Both incidents occurred near Kingsland Road between the hours of midnight and 3 a.m. The equipment was damaged, causing a major inconvenience to customers who lost power and posing a safety hazard to people nearby.

Hinson appointed interim Brookland Supervisor

FEB. 14 – The Henrico Board of Supervisors tonight appointed former deputy county manager Harvey Hinson to fill the Brookland District seat on an interim basis until a special election is held later this year. Hinson will replace Dick Glover, the longtime Brookland supervisor who died Feb. 2 at the age of 82. Glover was beginning his 30th year on the board.

Hinson retired as a deputy county manager in 2007, following a career with the county that spanned four decades, beginning with a stint as a part-time engineer's aide. He later served as the assistant director of planning before becoming a deputy county manager.

Brookland District Supervisor Glover dies at 82

align="right">FEB. 2, 7:34 P.M. –Henrico County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dick Glover has died, following a medical emergency earlier today, the Citizen has learned. He was 82.

Glover was the longest-serving current member of the board and just last month was named its chairman for the sixth time in his 29-year tenure. He was serving the second year of his eighth term as the board's representative from the Brookland District.

Rabid raccoon found in Glen Allen

A raccoon found dead by a dog in Glen Allen Wednesday has tested positive for rabies, Henrico Police confirmed today. The dead raccoon was found by a dog in the 5900 block of Rigney Place, near Echo Lake, at about 3 p.m. Feb. 16, and Henrico's Animal Protection Unit responded to take the raccoon's remains to the state laboratory for testing.
