Purify Infrared Sauna opens at GreenGate


Purify Infrared Sauna recently opened its second Henrico location at GreenGate Shopping Center in Short Pump.

Owner Mary Woodbridge opened her first Purify location on Patterson Avenue in July 2015. The new store is located at 301 Maltby Boulevard, Suite C, west of Short Pump Town Center.

Capital One sponsors ‘Coders Experience’


Capital One hosted its “Coders Experience” event in Richmond and a number of other state locations Oct. 14. The events attracted hundreds of middle school girls, who learned how to create their own mobile apps, hone problem-solving skills and gain software development knowledge. A second day of Coders Experience events will take place Oct. 21. More than 500 Capital One volunteers are participating in the 10 events.

The award is a partnership between Virginia Business magazine and the Virginia Society of Association Executives. JCPenney to hire more than 1,000 seasonal workers in Virginia

Hiring event planned Oct. 17

Retailer JCPenney plans to hire more than 1,000 seasonal employees in Virginia (and a total of 40,000 nationwide) and will host a hiring event at all of itslocations nationwide Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., company officials announced this week. Available customer service and support positions include cashier, replenishment specialist, Sephora inside JCPenney beauty consultant and others.

Toyota salesman donates to veterans’ group


For McGeorge Toyota salesperson Tom Baskin, selling cars is personal. So much so that he has been able to donate $15,000 to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Mid-Atlantic Chapter by selling the most cars in April, June and July.

Baskin, who is a veteran himself (U.S. Air Force, 1973-1979), made the donations through the Random Acts of McGeorge program, which rewards the top salesperson each month with $5,000 that he or she may donate to a local charity of their choice.

Noodles & Company to open in Glen Allen Oct. 17


Noodles & Company will open a new restaurant in Innsbrook Oct. 17.

The location, at 4101 Dominion Boulevard, Suite 500, in Glen Allen, will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is honoring Learning Care Group (LCG) with the 2017 PHA “Partner of the Year” Award for the company’s extensive work in prioritizing healthier practices in the daily lives of young children. The “Partner of the Year” Award is presented to the partner who demonstrates how it is successfully executing key PHA strategies, including using innovative approaches to address childhood obesity. In earning this award, LCG was selected from a pool of over 200 eligible organizations. LCG’s 900+ schools nationwide include two La Petite Academy locations in Henrico County. La Petite Academy has reduced fat and sugar by eliminating fried foods and juice; enhanced the daily menu to include over 50 fruits and vegetables and more than 30 multi-cultural offerings; and found ways to keep the children active each day, such as with dance breaks to get re-energized for learning.

Reed named chief operating officer for Henrico Doctors’ Hospital


HCA Virginia announced this week that Zachary Reed will serve as chief operating officer for Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

Reed previously served as the executive director of operations for Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton, a 100-bed acute care hospital that opened in Braselton, Ga. in 2014.

McAuliffe recognizes businesses for hiring veterans


SEPT. 28, 5:30 P.M. – Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe Thursday recognized businesses for their ongoing commitment to creating employment opportunities for Virginia’s military veterans at the 2017 Virginia Workforce Conference, hosted by the Virginia Chamber Foundation. More than 700 businesses, state and local government agencies and educational institutions, certified under the Virginia Values Veterans Program, have hired 26,852 veterans since the program’s inception in 2012.

Whitley’s Peanut Factory announces opening date for Henrico store


Whitley’s Peanut Factory will open its third retail location – and first in the Richmond region – at 4101 Dominion Boulevard in Glen Allen Oct. 23.

Whitley’s will host a grand opening celebration in November that will include store tours, giveaways and family activities.

Publix will open another store in Henrico – at Short Pump Crossing Shopping Center, 3460 Pump Road – Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7 a.m. The store will become the chain's sixth in Henrico at that time. It will open exactly one week after another new store (in the Virginia Center Marketplace at 10150 Brook Road in Glen Allen) opens.

Free flu shots available at MedExpress, opening Sept. 20

Open house to be held Sept. 19

MedExpress Urgent Care will open a new neighborhood medical center in Henrico Sept. 20 at 8040 W. Broad St. To help Richmond-area residents prepare for the upcoming flu season, the new center will offer free flu shots to patients ages four and up starting the day the center opens and while supplies last.

An open house celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held prior to opening day, Sept. 19 from noon to 2 p.m.
