Purify Infrared Sauna recently opened its second Henrico location at GreenGate Shopping Center in Short Pump.

Owner Mary Woodbridge opened her first Purify location on Patterson Avenue in July 2015. The new store is located at 301 Maltby Boulevard, Suite C, west of Short Pump Town Center.

The Henrico County Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is accepting applications for its next volunteer Master Gardener training program, which provides instruction in all aspects of horticulture.

Applications for the 2018 training program will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 27. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 16 through March 22.

Wegmans to sponsor Turkey Trot 10K


Wegmans Food Markets Inc. will become title sponsor of the Richmond Road Runners Club’s annual Turkey Trot 10K, a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many Richmond area runners.

Wegmans and RRRC have signed a three-year agreement whereby the race, beginning in November 2017, will be known as the Wegmans Turkey Trot 10K. RRRC will continue to manage race operations.

Publix to open at Virginia Center Marketplace Oct. 11


Publix will open its next Henrico location at 10150 Brook Road in the Virginia Center Marketplace shopping center in Glen Allen Oct. 11 at 7 a.m. The store will host a grand opening ceremony at that time.

The location will be the Florida chain's fifth in Henrico, joining those already open at Nuckols Place and The Shoppes at Crossridge in Glen Allen, The Shops at White Oak Village in Eastern Henrico and John Rolfe Commons in the Far West End.

Statewide tax amnesty period underway


Delinquent individual and business taxpayers in Virginia can pay back taxes with no penalties and half the interest from now through Nov. 14, as part of the 2017 Virginia Tax Amnesty Program, which began Sept. 13.

Approved by the 2017 General Assembly, the program assumes collection of $89.5 million for the general fund to support education, health, and public safety, as well as to provide a cash reserve.

The Virginia Community College System Cyber Security Advisory Board, a newly formed group designed to ensure that the Commonwealth’s two-year cyber curriculum remains up-to-date and imparts real-world skills, recently held its first meeting.

Highland Springs HS teacher chosen as teacher of the year for Central Virginia


Greenlee Naughton’s accolades keep growing. The Highland Springs High School English teacher was named Monday as one of Virginia’s eight 2018 regional teachers of the year.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe surprised Naughton Monday morning with an announcement at a school assembly that had been billed as a celebration of Highland Springs’ second straight year of full accreditation. In May, Henrico County Public Schools named Naughton its top teacher for 2017.

Officials to unveil design for new Fairfield Library Sept. 27


Henrico County Public Library and BCWH Architects will reveal the schematic design for the new Fairfield Area Library, set to open in October 2019, at a community meeting Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Eastern Recreation Center, 1440 N Laburnum Ave.

The library was designed by BCWH Architects in conjunction with Henrico County government officials, Henrico County Public Library administration and staff members and with direct input from community members provided at a series of community meetings and through an online survey in the spring.

Richmond Raceway breaks ground on redevelopment project


Days after its 2017 racing season concluded, Richmond Raceway and International Speedway Corporation held a groundbreaking Sept. 14 for Richmond Raceway Reimagined, a $30-million infield redevelopment project at the Henrico complex. The new infield will offer a variety of enhanced amenities for fans, teams, sponsors and other stakeholders to the Richmond infield. Fan access is the focus of Reimagined, which will showcase new Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garages with a fan-viewing walkway. The new infield continues the track’s mission of being the most fan-friendly track on NASCAR’s schedule.

HCA Virginia’s Henrico Doctors’ Hospital will host its 30th annual reunion in celebration of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit patient graduates. Sept. 16.
