Capital One sponsors ‘Coders Experience’


Capital One hosted its “Coders Experience” event in Richmond and a number of other state locations Oct. 14. The events attracted hundreds of middle school girls, who learned how to create their own mobile apps, hone problem-solving skills and gain software development knowledge. A second day of Coders Experience events will take place Oct. 21. More than 500 Capital One volunteers are participating in the 10 events.

The award is a partnership between Virginia Business magazine and the Virginia Society of Association Executives. JCPenney to hire more than 1,000 seasonal workers in Virginia

Hiring event planned Oct. 17

Retailer JCPenney plans to hire more than 1,000 seasonal employees in Virginia (and a total of 40,000 nationwide) and will host a hiring event at all of itslocations nationwide Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., company officials announced this week. Available customer service and support positions include cashier, replenishment specialist, Sephora inside JCPenney beauty consultant and others.

McGeorge donates $20k to FeedMore


McGeorge Toyota recently donated $20,000 to FeedMore, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization. The contribution will support local children, families and seniors in need of nutritious meals who are unable to provide for themselves.

Parham Doctors’ Hospital opens Adult Substance Abuse Partial Hospitalization Program


HCA Virginia’s Parham Doctors’ Hospital recently announced the opening of the Parham Doctors’ Hospital Adult Substance Abuse Partial Hospitalization Program.

The SA-PHP program is an outpatient program that provides a mix of individual and group counseling in a setting with medical services. The SA-PHP program is a part of the Behavioral Health program services offered at Parham Doctors’ Hospital’s Center for Emotional Growth. Attached to the hospital, the expansion of services includes spacious group rooms and the latest therapeutic interventions for treating patients with a primary substance abuse diagnosis.

Draper Aden Associates announced today that it received the Gold Shovel Standard certification for excavation, which is a safety certification and rating system for companies that perform, subcontract, or oversee excavation work. DAA is currently the only consulting engineering firm in Virginia granted this best-in-class certification. Gold Shovel Standard is a nonprofit organization that fills an industry gap by providing third-party confirmation of baseline Safety Management Systems for the protection of buried assets, and fair and transparent metrics for damage prevention. According to the organization, companies that achieve this certification have policies and procedures related to excavation safety which, when followed, make a certified company unlikely to cause damage to buried infrastructure. More specifically, the company’s policies and procedures have been audited to meet the specific requirements of the Gold Shovel Standard program.

Bon Secours announces Richmond OB-GYN expansion to Henrico County


Richmond OB-GYN, an obstetrics and gynecology provider of Bon Secours Richmond Health System, will open a new office at Bon Secours Heart and Vascular Institute building in Henrico County. The building, which serves as an extension of Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, is located in Reynolds Crossing at Forest and Glenside Avenues. The practice opened for patients March 21.

Alice Hirata, M.D., joined the Bon Secours Medical Group and is now part of the physician team at Richmond OB-GYN, where she will help to establish a midwifery practice at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Sports Backers, Markel announce partnership for half marathon


Sports Backers announced recently a new three-year partnership with Markel, making the Innsbrook-based insurance provider the new title sponsor of the Markel Richmond Half Marathon. The race, now in its 10th year, is part of the Anthem Richmond Marathon weekend Nov. 11, which also features the VCU Health 8k.

Known as 'America's Friendliest Marathon' and celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2017, the Anthem Richmond Marathon and companion races annually draw participants from all 50 states and dozens of countries around the world.
