Eisenman & Associates, Inc. employee Tracie Grady recently was named the 2017 Virginia Business Meeting Planner of the Year. Grady was chosen by a committee of industry leaders among 19 nominees. The award is a partnership between Virginia Business magazine and the Virginia Society of Association Executives. Its goal is to recognize the unsung hero of the association, non-profit, and business world, the professional meeting planner. Grady works with clients in a number of areas, including membership management, publication design, membership directories and convention/tradeshow programs. She has worked in the association industry, primarily focused on meeting planning, for more than 20 years. She is a graduate of VCU. The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is honoring Learning Care Group (LCG) with the 2017 PHA “Partner of the Year” Award for the company’s extensive work in prioritizing healthier practices in the daily lives of young children. The “Partner of the Year” Award is presented to the partner who demonstrates how it is successfully executing key PHA strategies, including using innovative approaches to address childhood obesity. In earning this award, LCG was selected from a pool of over 200 eligible organizations. LCG’s 900+ schools nationwide include two La Petite Academy locations in Henrico County. La Petite Academy has reduced fat and sugar by eliminating fried foods and juice; enhanced the daily menu to include over 50 fruits and vegetables and more than 30 multi-cultural offerings; and found ways to keep the children active each day, such as with dance breaks to get re-energized for learning.

Real estate development, building and management firm HHHunt has been named among the top 100 adoption-friendly workplaces in the United States and second within the real estate industry by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. This is the third year in a row that HHHunt has been recognized as a national leader in adoption-friendly policies and benefits. Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces are determined by an analysis of financial assistance and paid leave for families who adopt, based on surveys completed by employers. Break-out lists are available noting America’s top 100 adoption-friendly employers, the top 10 by size, and the leaders in each industry. Since 2007, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has compiled an annual list of the top adoption-friendly workplaces.

Manis will be heavily involved in all aspects of strategic initiatives including budgeting and forecasting. He also will maintain a strong relationship with Sterling National Bank and ensure the responsibility of the accounting department. Manis has more than 25 years of global/manufacturing experience, most recently as Vice President of Finance and Accounting for Quibca Holdings, a large global manufacturer headquartered in Italy. Manis oversaw various business functions related to financial planning, budgeting, cash management, distribution, tax, and all other facets of accounting. Manis, who began his career as operations accountant at McKesson HBOC, received his BBA from Marshall University in 1989 and his MBA from Averett University in 1999. Stingem Management Group LLC has acquired Boathouse Capital’s stake in Henrico-based Colortree Group, Inc. James “Pat” Patterson, president/CEO of Colortree, is now the sole owner of the company. This transaction closed December 29, 2016. Boathouse Capital originally invested debt and equity to facilitate the management buyout of Colortree in 2011. Over the course of Boathouse's five-year investment, Colortree expanded its operations facility and equipment while improving its leadership team with the hiring of CFO, Terry Manis, and William Mack, VP of Human Resources. By expanding their facility and consolidating under one roof, Colortree can run much more efficiently and improve cost-effectiveness. Three Henrico hotels and one of the county's newest restaurants recently received ratings among the AAA's highest designations for hotels and restaurants. Among the Henrico properties receiving the AAA/CAA Four Diamond Rating were Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center, Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump, and The Westin Richmond. Shagbark, a new restaurant in Libbie Mill, was also awarded the AAA/CAA Four Diamond Rating. In all, 22 hotels and 15 restaurants in the Commonwealth of Virginia earned AAA/CAA Four and Five Diamond Ratings, which recognize establishments that are considered among the upper echelon of the hospitality industry. Four Diamond hotels and restaurants account for less than four percent (3.9 percent) of the nearly 59,000 AAA/CAA Approved and Diamond Rated hotels and restaurants.

Firehouse Bar-B-Que LLC has leased 2700 square feet of retail space at 9074 Staples Mill Road in Staples Mill Marketplace. The company will open Smoke Pit Grill restaurant at the site. Gordon and Lori Taylor of Glen Allen are the owners. Firehouse Bar-B-Que is a mobile food trailer, a full catering service, and a national bbq competition team. Smoke Pit Grill is a full-service restaurant providing a casual atmosphere with indoor and patio seating. The restaurant specializes in smoked meats, fresh seafood dishes, artisan soups and gourmet side dishes. Andy Rayford is the executive chef. Eric Williford, associate, of Collier International-Richmond handled the lease negotiations for the tenant.

The 24th annual Saxon Shoes for the Needy collection to benefit The Salvation Army brought in 5,768 pairs of shoes. The shoes collected at Saxon in Richmond at Short Pump Town Center and in Fredericksburg at The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Centre were presented to The Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in Richmond and The Salvation Army in Fredericksburg.

Kaléo, a privately-held pharmaceutical company, recently announced that Henrico-based McShin Foundation has been awarded the 2016 Kaléo Cares Award for outstanding achievement in serving patients in need. The McShin Foundation, founded in 2004, is a nonprofit full-service Recovery Community Organization, committed to serving individuals and families in their fight against substance abuse disorders. McShin offers peer-to-peer intervention and recovery services, residential recovery support and a new program for high school students. The organization responds to more than 200,000 recovery support requests each year. This is the second year of the award.

Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet foods and accessories with two locations in Henrico County, finished its fifth annual Thanks for Giving pet products drive having raised a total of $178,165 for local animal shelters, over $40,000 more than what was raised in 2015. The November fundraiser ran all month long throughout Pet Valu’s 300-plus stores nationwide. As each store partners with at least one local animal group, all customer contributions directly supported the animals in their community that do not have homes. Pet Valu will continue to collect donations through the remainder of the holiday season and all year long there are always opportunities to make contributions and adopt through the stores.
