Lakeside Youth Baseball facility damaged by Friday’s flood

JUNE 19, 3:21 P.M. – The Lakeside Youth Baseball organization and facility has suffered hits from powerful storms before, and now it has happened again.

A June 16 storm caused localized flooding in Lakeside, and it was enough to damage LYB fields, concessions and equipment – days before two scheduled all-star tournaments it was set to host.

The timing was particularly unfortunate, said LYB Secretary Connie Fredericksen, because the regular season has just finished and all of the equipment that managers carry was at the field in the equipment room during the storm.

Lewis Ginter, Henrico Christmas Mother partner to collect bike helmets

SEPT. 9, 10:42 A.M. – Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the Henrico Christmas Mother Program have joined to collect new children’s bicycle helmets for the holidays.

While bicycles are often donated as holiday gifts for needy children, helmets usually are not.

Throughout the month of September, new helmets dropped off at the Garden will be donated to the Henrico Christmas Mother, a nonprofit providing more than 1,600 families with food, new clothes, toys, books and other gift items during the holiday season.

A jolly good time

Thousands of shoppers – including the Alfaro family (pictured with Santa Claus) enjoyed Lakeside’s tenth-annual Holly Jolly Christmas event Nov. 14-15. Shops along the avenue stayed open late Friday night and offered food and discounts to shoppers who were getting a head-start on their holiday purchases.

Henrico County, in partnership with GRTC, is conducting a series of three Public Meetings to present recommended changes to transit service in Henrico County and to seek input from the public. Portions of Henrico County’s GRTC service will need to be adjusted to better connect with the upcoming Pulse BRT service and planned changes in the City of Richmond’s transit network. Meetings will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations: Oct. 5 – Libbie Mill Library; Oct. 16 – Eastern Henrico Recreation Center; and Nov. 2 – Tuckahoe Library.
